A look into a galley. What they might have for dinner today? Maybe Hamburger potato sup? All the sudden a story of my father in law comes to my mind, when he was a young lad and served on the tall ship Gorch Fock.
Back in the old days- around 50 years ago - helping in the galley was part of a sailer’s duty. Peeling potatoes was one of those. My crew had the problem to get rid of the potato jacket in a fast and clean way and so the »potato economize cut« was invented. Six courages cuts in the potato and: DONE! Looking more like a cube than a neatly peeled potato it was ready to be cooked.
When I asked my father in law what his chief had said to this kind of »creativity« he answered: »Luckily they never found out. Otherwise we had been grounded with fatigue duty.«

…da hört man den Smutje ganz deutlich :Baaacken und Baaaanken !!!!!!..ob das Labskaus bei Stärke 8 auch noch gut schmeckt,weiss ich nicht….aber in der Kombüse könnte man einiges auf die Beine stellen.

Labskaus gehört definitiv zu den Dingen, die ich auch als original Hamburger Duchting nicht mag. Aber was ein echter Seemann ist…

Labskaus ist mir eigentlich als erstes eingefallenn, ich mag es eigentlich auch nicht so..aber mein Herz schlägt eigentlich zur Kartoffelsuppe , zu Birnen ,Bohnen und Speck…….und Grünkohl…….!!!!!!mit Kassler und Kabanossi……und Korn hinterher….!
