A creative process is inspiring, freeing, as well as struggling and eating up ones energies. Sometimes it all flows easily and sometimes it feels like as if I am standing on a cliff and must jump but fear is holding me back. But creativity doesn’t come all by itself, without any help. Picasso once said: »Creativity does exists, but she has to meet you at work.«<\/p>\n

My mind is racing, I feel uneasy, dissatisfied. How can I what I see and would like to express, transport into my in my paintings? Which colors should I use, which format? Now that I slowly add oil painting into my artistic life, the question of materials arouses as well. Endless choices as it seems but which ones give me the possibility to paint the paintings I would love my paintings to look like and express my individuality? Right now my studio looks like a mess, every corner is a proof of the processes which are going on right now.<\/p>\n

What does make this phase so typical? It’s restlessness, an inner riot and feeling tense. The absolute opposite from a relaxed painting mode.<\/p>\n

My surroundings notice the change in my nature when my view is deeply \u00a0fixed on my inner state. Every step to come out of this inner place is combined with great effort and a loss of energy. But there is family as well which needs it’s time and if it’s only for something mundane as cooking.<\/p>\n

My studio is a mess, don’t lets even talk about my household. But to me it’s very important not to interrupt the process, to endure the moment and when self – doubt is taking over. I know the break through will come, I have experienced this so many times by now. I withdraw even more and friends get irritated when I don’t answer phone calls or mails. ( Hi Judy, next week I will find time).<\/p>\n

Right now this takes place with a dead line on my mind and fear starts to crawl up upon my neck. Will I make it? The opening of the show is in June, but that actually isn’t much time. The drying of the oil paintings has to be considered as well as all the framing of the pastel work. From the quite naive view of inspired painting some people have it could not have been further away from the truth.<\/p>\n

The last two weeks were very intense, but now I can see where my path is leading me. Now it has to transform in a quieter focused kind of painting.<\/p>\n

Well, the creative process of painting isn’t always as straining as I described the process here. These are the very intense phases of a work as an artist. It’s like as if the universe is knocking on your door and would you please kindly answer it? Let inspiration come in, let it take over and then just paint, paint, paint. I have gone through this so many times by now, that I should actually start to develop a stronger faith in the outcome.<\/p>\n
