This weekend was my idea of a very fine plein air session. Warm wind, no bugs and a great summer feeling.

Today I looked in my old sketchbook and found a sketch of the old brickwork Museum Cathrinesminde. This industrial museum shown how bricks were produced for about 300 years and at its best time over 80 brickwork sites were located along the Fjord.

Just a short walk away you can find one of my most favourite painting spots. You look across the Flensborg Fjord towards the German pensinsula Holnis.

On all the sailing ships people are busy to get ready for the next season. Very soon the Atlantis will be seen again on the waters of Flensborg Fjord.

It’s about time that spring with warmer temperature arrives and I am able to go outside for plein air painting without freezing. This sketch is from last summer at the Danish / German border of the Flensborg Fjord. It was done under the never ending gaggle of hundreds of geese on the waters edge.

Even though this summer was too wet, we enjoyed some really nice days.

What makes a place special for an artist? What keeps him/her coming back to this place? That’s hard to explain, but sometimes there’s some kind of magic in the air.
One of those places is the view to the headland of Holnis at the Flensborg Fjord. On this day it was quite windless and those big clouds moved slowly across the sky.
