Today I looked in my old sketchbook and found a sketch of the old brickwork Museum Cathrinesminde. This industrial museum  shown how bricks were produced for about 300 years and at its best time over 80 brickwork sites were located along the Fjord.

Just a short walk away you can find one of my most favourite painting spots. You look across the Flensborg Fjord towards the German pensinsula Holnis.

Bugsier 2 in a rain shower

By now most of you probably know that I have a great affinity for rain clouds. I am deeply drawn to those motivs where the cranes of the harbour can hardly be seen in the rain.

Be patience with yourself

There are many people out there who have a deep desire to express themselves with a sketchbook but lack the courage to do so. In our fast moving world there doesn’t seem to be any time left for a slow continually grow of a skill. Besides the fear of failure, impatience with oneself seems to  be the biggest enemy when it comes to learn sketching. You would like to learn fast and please, if possible without any setbacks. Well, it doesn’t work this way. There are times when you learn very quickly and improve fast and there will be times when your progress is very slow.

Be patience with yourself and don’t emphasise your imperfections. In the beginning sketches might look horrible, but with every line you draw you will improve and there will be a point when you can let go of your fears and start actually enjoying to explore and capture the surrounding world with your pen.

Another tug boat in front of those big container ships. Those are such fun to paint.

The toug boat Constant is one of my favourite subjects right now. Compared to the modern toug boats this one from 1987 is an oldtimer, but I love those clear, square shapes. Addded with just a few details in front of a containership and  I am truly happy. One day I would really like to join a crew on a work day.
